"The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page" - St Augustine (354-430 AD)
In 2014 my friend Hugh and I tramped (as the New Zealanders call hiking) on Stewart Island and to Milford Sound in the South Island of New Zealand. The Blog recorded that adventure https://shauntrampinginnewzealand.blogspot.ca/
In 2016 I was Alpine hiking in British Columbia at Lake O'Hara in the Rockies with members of the Alpine Club of Canada Vancouver Island branch. I decided it would be fun to go to New Zealand again. Hugh was game and even said "Can we go sailing"?
What has evolved is four of us (Hugh plus two hiking friends - George and Michael) will meet in Queenstown on January 13th , travel to Te Anau and tramp the Kepler Track. Hugh and I will then fly to Wellington where Hugh's wife Caroline will join us. My wife Penny has become less adventurous and will stay home. The three of us will then take a train to Auckland, stopping for three days on the way to do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. We will take a bus from Auckland to Opua in the Bay of Islands and there charter a 31 foot boat for five days.
The next post is a seasonal newsletter that I have been tardy in sending to friends and family.
